Arts & Culture

The Prince George arts scene boasts a new architecturally stunning Two Rivers Art Gallery and recently re-furbished Exploration Place Museum as prime attractors for visitors and residents alike.  The Prince George Symphony Orchestra, professional and amateur theatre groups, two dance companies and an active community arts group made up of writers, artisans and musicians round out the full featured opportunities in Prince George.

Community opportunities in arts are continually expanding.  The University of Northern BC Continuing Studies program, in partnership with the well-respected Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design, now offers a select number of art and design courses on UNBC’s Prince George campus.  There is also exciting talk among arts community members about the potential development of a downtown Performing Arts Centre!

GALLERIES

The centrepiece of the local art scene is the recently-opened Two Rivers Art Gallery, a Class 'A' facility that regularly pairs exhibitions of nationally and internationally recognized artists with the work of local and regional painters and sculptors. An on-site gift shop also carries a diverse array of local art that you can carry away with you.

MUSEUMS

An 8000 square foot addition, extensive archives, rotating exhibits and plenty of hands-on activities makes The Exploration Place at the Fraser-Fort George Regional Museum the place to be if you want to experience the past and dream about potential futures.
Or take a trip down to the confluence of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers to the Railway and Forestry Museum, where the flavour of wood chips and coal-fired steel greets you as you step through the living pages of the industrial history of the area.

MUSIC

Music from around the world finds a home in Prince George. The Prince George Symphony Orchestra offers the best live classical music north of Vancouver.

THEATRE

Prince George is paradise for actors and audiences alike. Theatre North West brings you professional stage productions, while the talented group of amateur thespians at the Prince George Theatre Workshop never fails to entertain.
Periodic productions of everything from dinner theatre to full-scale musicals are brought to you by a handful of private production companies. And in mid-August the Fringe Festival hits the streets and venues of the city for four days of the best in international alternative theatre.
