Prince George is a learning centre of excellence in B.C. Several post-secondary education institutions here host a wide range of programs that provide knowledge and skills for economic growth and a high quality of life.
University of Northern British Columbia
Established in 1994, The University of Northern B.C. represents a commitment by government and the community to higher learning, economic growth and a heightened quality of life in the north.
In 2005, the annual ranking of Canadian universities by Maclean's magazine placed UNBC as the top small university in Western Canada, and 4th among small, primarily undergraduate universities across Canada.
Today, more than 3,900 students attend 35 undergraduate and 17 graduate degree programs. 177 full time and 131 part time faculty are employed.
UNBC is also a growing centre of research with faculty securing $10.2 million in research grants in 2005.
The Northern Medical Program was launched in 2004. This program is part of a provincial medical education expansion involving UBC and the University of Victoria.
The University is constantly expanding. The new Teaching and Learning Centre, which will help accommodate 600 additional student spaces, is nearing completion. The Northern Sport Centre, currently under construction, will support athletic training and development, provide recreational space for the public and attract large tournaments and events to the city.
College of New Caledonia
Established in 1969, the College of New Caledonia has long been an institution of "first choice" for students of BC's Central Interior. Dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in education, CNC offers a wide range of university credit, technical, vocational and general interest programs.
The college provides modern training facilities for trades students. The Trades department is committed to providing practical education that meets both the career goals of students and the needs of industry employers.
Sprott Shaw Community College

Certificate, diploma and degree programs are offered through this downtown Prince George location. Emphasis is placed on hands-on training and a variety of student support services.
Academy of Learning
Prince George, a Career and Business College offers career training that prepares students for the workplace immediately. Their presence is global and they have programs that allow students the flexibility to educate themselves in their own time according to their convenience.
Learning English

IMSS
http://www.imss.caThe Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society provides free basic and intermediate level English language training to adults on a full time or part time basis. Childcare during classes is also provided at no charge.
UNBC
http://www.unbc.ca/els/index.html UNBC provides 12 week extensive English language programs to adults at levels from ‘upper beginner’ to ‘university bridge’, or shorter programs customized to specific needs.
English Language Studies (ELS): Beginner to advanced levels. 300-400 hours per level. Three 12-week semesters per year. 6-week summer program. Full-time.

Prince George Native Friendship Centre (PGNFC) – Smokehouse Kitchen Program
PGNFC offers a six-month pre-employment / employment training program that offers cook ‘Level One Curriculum’ designed to set participants up with relevant prerequisites for entry level positions in the hospitality industry, or pursue further culinary training or academics.
