Temporary Foreign Worker Program

This program is delivered through Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and allows approximately 90,000 foreign workers into Canada yearly to help fill the Canadian skilled labour shortage.

Some temporary workers require a work permit and some do not. Some workers fall into categories where permits are approved more quickly. The requirements and processing times depend on what sort of work the worker will be doing in Canada. For more information, please visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.

Application for this program must be based on a job offer from a Canadian employer. A temporary work permit does not allow a worker to stay in Canada permanently, although once working temporarily in Canada a foreign worker can apply for permanent residence under certain conditions (no guarantee of acceptance).
