This program is delivered through Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and allows approximately 90,000 foreign workers into Canada yearly to help fill the Canadian skilled labour shortage.
Some temporary workers require a work permit and some do not. Some workers fall into categories where permits are approved more quickly. Application for this program must be based on a job offer from a Canadian employer. A temporary work permit does not allow a worker to stay in Canada permanently, although once working temporarily in Canada a foreign worker can apply for permanent residence under certain conditions (no guarantee of acceptance).
